Roto Spas Brings Back Affordable Options
There was a time a few decades back, when you could actually purchase a brand new full sized, full featured spa for around $1,500. However those days are long gone. This is why in recent years new types of light weight, cheap inflatable portable spas have appeared on the market. However; where does that leave a person who doesnt want to go the “cheap inflatable” route?
This it turns out was the impetus for companies like Roto Spas to begin to perfect and use a new type of cost cutting plastics molding technology. Methods that can be used to produce inexpensive plastic spas, in basically the same way that much smaller inexpensive plastic consumer items are made.
Only with one difference. You see, the same injection molding methods that are used to make smaller plastic products just don't work on larger products like spas. This why in the past, spas were made from vinyl or fiberglass composites. These are much more expensive methods and materials.
The new molding technology that Roto Spas has used to slash production costs and be able to introduce affordable, full featured mid sized spas is called (rotational plastic molding). It uses the same type of molten plastic that injection molding uses, with one big difference.
That is that the plastic is introduced into the much larger spa molds in “cool pellet” form. Then the entire mold is rotated as it's heated in an industrial oven. The result is that while the plastic is melted, the centrifugal force produced by the spinning of the mold keeps the plastic evenly distributed throughout the process.
